Developing Attacking Play
The Oxfordshire FA Coaches Conference returns for another year to Harcourt Hill, Oxford. The event, which is held in partnership with the Oxfordshire Sport and Physical Activity Partnership, will see coaches from across the county come together to share ideas and knowledge whilst participating in a mix of practical and theoretical coaching workshops led by a range of guest tutors.
This year we are delighted to be joined by three great tutors who have great knowledge around development of youth football from Under 7s through to Under 21s.
Tutors and Sessions
Tosh Farrell - Former Everton FC Academy Techinical Coordinator
Tosh is a very well regarded coach having spent many years at Everton Football Club in their academy as technical coordinator, and later as head of international development. During his time there he oversaw the development of players such as Wayne Rooney, Ross Barkley, Jack Rodwell and many others. As part of the club’s continual progress he developed “The Everton Way”, which was the first training programme readily available on the internet.
Since leaving Everton he founded Tosh Farrell Soccer in Boston, USA, focusing on player development in the area. He has also been involved in many conferences worldwide such as the UK’s largest football show: Grassroots Live Football Show, and the largest football convention in the world; National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Tosh’s session is around Turning and Dribbling, in the 12-16 age group.
The aims of the session are:
- Developing attack minded players
- Improved decision making
- Creating a positive attitude for your players
Ben Bartlett - FA Senior Youth Coach Educator
Ben is currently working for The FA as a Senior Youth Coach Educator, supporting coaching in professional football clubs. Previously Ben has worked as regional coach development manager in the East of England and with Chelsea Ladies as Director of Coaching.
Ben is well respected in the coaching family and has had articles published in The FA’s Boot Room magazine, most recently in the April 2016 issue, and Soccer Coaching International Journal. He has also delivered at many FA National and South East Regional Conferences.
Ben’s session is around Youth Coaching: Tactics and Skills, and he will be working within the 5-11 age groups.
The aims of the session are:
- To see player development as an individual task in a team setting
- How to structure a whole club and team curriculum to support all of the players in the team
- To show practical examples of how this can work with your team
Mark Haining - Oxfordshire FA County Coach Developer
Mark is known by many coaches across Oxfordshire having been involved in a variety of different roles in his time here. Starting at Carterton, and then Witney Ladies, he moved on to coach at the Oxford United Women and Girls Development Programme, Manchester United Soccer School Combined Services, RAF representative teams and Swindon Town Academy. Mark has also tutored for over 10 years, with Oxfordshire FA before moving to take up the role of Regional Coach Development Manager for London. Now Mark is County Coach Developer for Oxfordshire and The RAF, supporting coaches in the county at grassroots.
Mark’s session will centre on the “Who We Are” element of The England DNA.
The aims of the session are:
- How a club and personal philosophy of the coach combines with that of the players
- A look at coaching fundamentals that coaches should look at including:
