Level 1 Winter Pitches: Annual Preparation and Maintenance

These course raise awareness of what is involved in maintaining winter sports pitches - Football and Rugby.

The Level 1 courses are ideal for volunteers, new employees or just as a refresher for established employees.

  • Definition of surface
  • Assessment of surface
  • Sequence of annual maintenance
  • Mowing, scarification, verti-cutting, harrowing
  • Irrigation
  • Fertiliser application
  • Top dressing
  • Aeration and surface drainage
  • Brushing and drag-matting
  • Rolling
  • Seeding
  • Line marking: Setting and marking out; marking compounds
  • Turf problems: Weeds, pests and diseases
  • Safe and effective use of equipment

Cost £80 which includes 50% course subsidy from Northumberland FA.
