Course Information:

  • Minimum Age: 14
  • Course Duration: Minimum of 18 guided learning hours, 6 notional learning hours
  • Course Prerequisites: None
  • Who is it for: This course is designed to provide training for those planning to referee Futsal.
  • Course aims and objectives: To provide learners with an introduction to refereeing, identifying the skills required to effectively referee games of Futsal. Following the initial training the candidates will be expected to referee a minimum of six games before returning for a review session during which their knowledge of Law will be assessed.
  • Leading to: Registered Referee Status (either level 8 Youth Referee or Level 7 Junior County Referee)

Course Content:

The course consists of 5 clear modules with the following elements

Modules 1-4 - Theory/Practical Delivery:

  • Law 12 Sanctions
  • Cautioning & send-off procedure
  • Misconduct report writing
  • Advantage
  • Recognising Challenges
  • The second referee, timekeeper and third referee
  • Practical exercises covering various laws
  • Free Kicks
  • Penalty Kicks
  • Small games for practical experience of refereeing
  • Practical Experience (Over 1 – 3 month period 6 NLH’s)

Module 5 - Assessment of Experiences:

  • Opportunity to reflect on previous learning and experience
  • Examination to confirm competence to qualify as a Futsal Referee

PLEASE NOTE: The dates indicated on the course booking cover only the first 3 Modules of learning. Module 4 requires the candidate to track the practical implementation of their lessons in a match environment, and Module 5, the Final Assessment, can only be completed once that has been evidenced. 

Either the Safeguarding Football on line learning resource or where applicable the workshop will be completed. A DBS check will be instigated during the course, where applicable.

Practical Involvement: Candidates are encouraged to participate practically to maximise their opportunities for learning. (This however will not prevent successful completion of the award)

Assessment: Assessment is via successful completing the Assessment of Knowledge (theory & practical) in module 4.

The FA Futsal Referee Course is for existing football referees and for those who don't have a referee qualification.


This course is designed to provide training for those who want to referee Futsal and will focus on the following key areas;


  - Understanding the laws of Futsal and their practical application

 - The realities of your role – dealing with practical situations including misconduct

 - Putting your skills and knowledge into practise by refereeing live games


Course Aims and Objectives

All candidates aged 16 and over will need to complete the FA Safeguarding Children Workshop, please be aware this will need to be completed in order for you to be certificated and to be able to referee. This will take place as follows: Friday 31st August 18.30-21.30 at Crownhills Community College, Gwendolen Rd, Leicester LE5 5FT

This workshop will be free of charge. Candidates aged 14 and 15 will not need to attend this session but instead will need to complete an Introduction to Safeguarding Online Course. Further guidance will be supplied prior to the course on how to complete this process.


Opportunities to Referee

Following successful completion of the course, candidates will have opportunities to referee for the Leicestershire and Rutland Youth Development Futsal League.

100% Attendance is required to be awarded and certificated for this course.

Candidates will need to complete a Call-Back Session which will be communicated in due course.


All candidates aged 16 at the start of the course and over must also complete a Criminal Records Check (CRC). Further guidance will be supplied prior to the course on how to complete this process.

It is important in refereeing to have the right equipment and this course is no exception. What follows is a list of kit/equipment required for participation in the course:

It is also important to remember to bring your own food and refreshments as they will not be provided on the day.
