Workshop Overview

Formations are often a toy to play with and something to view prior to a game on a sheet or tactic board. But how can we ensure that the tactics and strategies we use meet the abilities and needs of our players. What happens when players move, the ball moves, and scorelines change? Every coach can set up a shape, but can we defend within it, maintain it, adapt it, communicate to keep it? Join us for a deeper dive into tactics and strategies. Let's talk football!


Who is it for?

This workshop aims to support coaches that are working within upper YDP ages to open aged and 1st team football (age groups from 15+).


What to expect

  • Learn alongside 2 tutors that both hold the UEFA A License qualification.
  • Theoretical delivery around all things formations at 11-a-side.
  • Opportunity to constructively challenge each others strategies to better understand the strengths and areas for development within our own.


Outcomes

  • Discuss the trade-offs to different formations.
  • Why principles of play become the first priority.
  • Understand how differing player needs should impact and inform our choices as coaches.
