The FA England DNA Workshop (12-16) with Exeter City Academy: Intelligent Individual Defending - For Levels 1-3 coaches
This workshop is suitable for coaches working with teenage or adult players / U12 and above. In this workshop we focus on 1v1 defending:
- Technical aspects of defending as the first player
- Decision making as the first player linked to principles of play
- Transferable and position specific skill
We need to shift the focus away from only coaching team shape and positioning, to sessions that encourage the development of individual defensive skills, attributes and abilities. Players in this age group are still mastering the technical aspects of defending, as well as developing tactical understanding, and that’s what our coaching should reflect.
During this workshop we’ll look at how we can help develop all players to be more confident and effective when out of possession. We will examine the different technical aspects required to defend 1v1, transferable individual defensive skills, position specific skills and how to inspire positive decision making.
This is an observational coaching session, no kit needed.
The workshop will give Levels 1 - 3 coaches 3 hours of CPD
