By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Analyse performance within the attacking and defending principles of play.
  • Design practices specific to the needs of individual players.
  • Link the design of practices to match day and player’s role specific requirements.

Course duration: Four days split over a variety of templates with an optional assessment

Course pre-requisites:

  • Member of the current FA Licensed Coaches’ Club (recommended)
  • 1st4Sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football or FA Youth Award Modules 1 and 2
Please note that from 1 August learners can now complete The FA Youth Award Module 3 if they do not hold The FA youth Award Modules 1 and 2. In order to attend The FA Youth Award Module 3 the learner will need to hold the 1st4Sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football. Learners that do not hold the Youth Award Module 1 and 2 should be made aware that although they can proceed straight to Youth Award Module 3, they should consider completing the How We Coach and The Future Player / How We Support Components of the new FA Level 2 in Coaching Football prior to completing the Module 3. This will provide them with the knowledge they would have gained by completing The FA Youth Award Modules 1 and 2.

Who is it for?

Module 3 is designed to support the development of coaches who currently coach a group of youth players (Aged between 5 – 21yrs) on a regular basis within the performance or grassroots areas of the game.

Course Content:

Workshops will consider:

  • Plan, do, review
  • Principles of play
  • Intervention strategies
  • Questioning techniques
  • Focus on ‘whole-part-whole’ practices
  • Building challenges in trial and error

Pre-course task:

Candidates will receive a pre-course reading pack three weeks prior to the course, which they are required to read and complete in advance.

Candidates should arrive at the course with ideas around their own development. These may be areas of development the coach would like to improve on and/or areas of strength which the coach would like to build on further.

Certificates of attendance will be issued following submission of completed log book. This does not commit candidates to undergo assessment for The FA Youth Award as this is optional.

Course assessment:

There is an option to undertake an assessment at the conclusion of this module to complete The FA Youth Award. This will cover key elements across Modules 1, 2 & 3 of The FA Youth Award. Candidates will be required to return log books to FA Learning at least four weeks prior to the date of final assessment. The assessment process will be decided in consultation with the Course Director but where possible will be a club site assessment.

The FA Youth Award Module 3 Course is designed for anyone wishing to develop players between the ages of 5-21 yrs. This is the new entry point for any coach wishing to work towards UEFA B License.

  • Questioning techniques
  • Focus on ‘whole-part-whole’ practices
  • Building challenges in trial and error

Following attendance at the Youth Module 3 course you will be given the option to go forward for the Full Youth Award assessment, with support available to help you achieve this qualification.
