The FA Coach Mentor programme continues in the 2016/17 season for coaches across West Riding.

Working with our FA Charter Standard Clubs, we will provide 50 hours of mentoring support across a 12-month period, entirely free of charge. FA Coach Mentors will provide tailored support that challenges coaches to excel in their work and enhance coaching standards nationally.

The programme is intended to have an impact across the entire club a Mentor is working with, building on individual coach support to group demonstrations and club philosophy documents. Each FA Coach Mentor will be assigned 2 clubs for the season and work in partnership with them to use their hours to best suit the needs of those involved, including training sessions, club meetings and match days.

What are the key elements of the programme?

  • To observe, provide feedback and create action plans for clubs and individuals
  • To develop and deliver a programme of support for coaches across the 4 corners
  • To support coach development, focusing upon the knowledge, skills and attributes to be an effective coach
  • To support and develop reflection skills
  • Develop individual, club based events to support the learning of coaches
  • The FA Coach Mentor programme will meet the needs of coaches at a local level, promoting and cascading the principles of the FA Future Game document, as well as linking with The FA Respect programme

Why should I/my club get involved?

  • Support for new or experienced coaches to help improve their skills
  • Whole club impact
  • Help with the retention and recruitment of players through better coaching
  • Raise confidence in coaches throughout the club
  • Gain support at training, club meetings and match days
