Course Description
The final module in The FA Youth Award Developing the Player continues the progressive change in coaching philosophy. Complementing the knowledge learnt on the preceding modules, this course teaches coaches to have a truly player-centred approach to the coaching and development of young players. The course comprises both practical and theory sessions.

Course Aims and Objectives
To provide candidates who have an ongoing involvement in coaching football with an opportunity to improve their knowledge and confidence in coaching the 5-21 year age group.

Course Content
Theory:
The course will introduce some key aspects in the following:

  • Practice and multiple outcomes
  • 'What the players say'
  • Coaching Styles and Intervention Strategies
  • Planning and Design
  • 'What the coaches say'

Practical:
This is a practical based course. Different types of practices will be demonstrated and delivered and candidates will be expected to evaluate these practices as well as plan, deliver and evaluate their own practices. Candidates will be encouraged to take part and those not taking part will be expected to build on their evaluating and observation skills.

Successful Completion

Assessment will be summative and formative.

Summative assessment:Log books with a record of at least six sessions must be submitted to the course tutor at least two weeks prior to the assessment date.

The Assessment will be as follows:

1. A 45 minute interview on the log book with 15 minute break.

2. A 60 minute practical coaching session, the technical aspects for which will be selected by the assessor from log book evidence.

These sessions will be delivered at Regional Centres or as a Club based assessment if a suitable number of candidates and players can be assembled. Candidate coaches will be informed of the decision at the end of the practical session supported by a short interview and action plan.

The assessment process will be divided between the theoretical aspects and practical delivery components.

FA Coach Education Bursary

As part of The FA's commitment to improving the standards of coaching, if you are a coach with an affiliated West Riding County FA Club or Team you may be eligible to receive a bursary of £100 towards the price of this course.

To receive this bursary you must meet the following criteria:
1.  Be associated with a Club or Team affiliated to West Riding County FA
2.  Be a member of The FA Licensed Coaches' Club (join here for free -

3.  Provide all required information during the online booking process

Please note that if you book a place on a course and access the bursary when you do not meet the required criteria, West Riding County FA will cancel your course registration.

All sessions must be attended. 

Please note that the pre-requisites for the Youth Award Module 3 are as follows:

1. Hold a valid 1st4Sport Level 2 CCF or higher (which includes a current FA Emergency Aid and a current FA Safeguarding Children in Football workshop certificate) together with a valid Youth Award Module 1 and 2 Certificate.

OR

2. UEFA B Licence and the FA Youth Coaches Course

AND

3.  Must be a member of the current FA Licensed Coaches' Club.
