The role of the modern defender and implications for Youth Coaches

This session will use the 2014 World Cup technical report as the basis to examine the roles and responsibilities of the defensive unit when in and out of possession. The practical session will consider how to support the physical and technical development of players in central and flank areas. A constraints led games approach will be used to challenge and develop the players tactical awareness. Finally we will look at the balance between development and winning in relation to defensive principles and priorities and your own playing and coaching philosophy.

The practices are suitable for players in the Youth Development phase (12-16 age range), but can be adapted for other ages and abilities. This event attracts CPD accreditation for level 2 and 3 coaches, but all coaches are very welcome to attend.
