Stepping Over the Sidelines - Female Event
Stepping Over the Sidelines is a free, introductory coaching and volunteering programme designed to help women aged 16+ take their first steps into grassroots football, even if they have no playing or coaching experience.
Purpose and Aim
The programme is part of the FA’s and England Football Learning’s Female Coach Development initiative, aiming to break down barriers such as “I’ve never played before” or “I don’t know the rules” and to inspire participants by highlighting positive female role models in the game. It focuses on recognising and building on everyday skills that can be transferred into coaching, and on giving a flavour of the next steps in a football career.

How It Works

Module 2: Learning the STEP principle (Space, Task, Equipment, People), adapting activities, and building confidence in delivering inclusive sessions.
Module 3 (in some cohorts): Practical coaching experience, networking with other women, and guidance on next steps such as the BT Playmaker or Introduction to Coaching Football
