MHFA England - Youth Mental Health Aware
Course Overview
This introductory session raises awareness of young people’s mental health.
The course covers:
- What mental health and mental ill health means in regards to young people specifically.
- How we can support young people to promote or maintain positive well-being and what to do when their mental health is a concern to them or us.
- It covers how to approach, converse and assist when you have a concern around an emerging or relapse of mental health issues for a young person and how to offer support in a time of crisis such as self-harm, panic attacks and suicide.
- It explores the impact of stigma and discrimination and the potential barrier this creates regarding recovery for young people. It explores how to challenge stigma/discrimination to create a positive, safe environment for young people to come forward and access support.
- The course provides strategies to help young people build protective factors, resilience and appropriate coping mechanisms.
- It introduces delegates to an abundance of organisations and apps that they can refer young people and their families to, who may need additional support with their mental health.
- Finally, the course looks at self-care for those in a supporting/caring role with young people (at work or in the home).

£5 per person – Staffordshire FA affiliated members
£45 per person – Non Staffordshire FA affiliated members
(Usually £125 pp via About Mental Health, part funded course by Staffordshire FA)
