Basic Referees Course - BRC/05

Course Information:

  • Minimum Age: 14
  • Course Duration: 24 hours plus 6 games
  • Course Prerequisites: None
  • Who is it for: Ideally suited to those wanting to become a referee involved in the 11 a side game both in Youth and Adult football.
  • Course aims and objectives: This course will provide an introduction to the laws of the game as well as developing the practical skills required to be a football referee.

Course Content:

The course is run over 5 modules including the completion of 6 matches as a trainee referee, two of which should be observed by a referee coach.

The course can either be predominantly theory or practically based dependant on venue and can be run over a weekend or several sessions again depending on resources.

Module 1- Introduction
This module will introduce some key aspects in the following:

  • Laws of the Game
  • The role of the Referee
  • Consider the skills require to control a game of football.

    Module 2- Practical Element
    Practical elements of the course will provide an introduction to:

  • Warming up and cooling down activities
  • Positioning & movement at both set pieces & in open play
  • Managing game situations
  • Signals & communication techniques

    FA Safeguarding Children workshop (included in the course programme)

     

    Module 3 - Examination
    Both a multiple choice examination paper and a practical on field assessment are used to establish theory & practical knowledge.

    1. Written element - both theoretical & practical courses
    2. Theory DVD - used in mainly theory based courses
    3. Practical on field assessment for use on practical based courses.

     

    Module 4 - Refereeing

  • 6 games are used to establish both the knowledge as well as the practicalities of refereeing.
  • 2 of the games are observed by a referee mentor who offers immediate feedback and development points.

     

    Module 5 - The next Steps

    A 3 hour workshop designed to reflect on a trainee referees first experiences of refereeing and to offer development pointers.

    Re-assessment:
    Candidates can be re-examined within 1 month after completing the initial examination.

    Refresher: Annual Referee and Training Development programme organised by County Football Associations for all new and existing referees.

    Monday 22 February - 6.30pm to 9pm
    Monday 01 March - 6.30pm to 9pm
    Monday 08 March - 6.30pm to 9pm
    Monday 15 March - 6.30pm to 9pm

    Please note all candidates must undertake an FA Safeguarding Children Workshop before qualification will be awarded. If you are 14 to 16 you will receive a guide to complete, if you are 17 and over you will be required to book on an FA Safeguarding Children Workshop. For details, please view other courses available on the online system and to apply contact Anita Dennis, giving her the course code you wish to attend and also the course code for the referees course that you are attending, as your referees course fee includes the FA Safeguarding Children Workshop.

    Candidates will be encouraged and supported to start refereeing at the Mansfield Town FC and Notts County FC Centres of Excellence, that take place on Sunday mornings, to develop their skills in a controlled environment.

    Nottinghamshire FA Terms and Conditions

    Nottinghamshire FA reserves the right to increase or decrease the course fee at its discretion.

    The Nottinghamshire FA does not accept responsibility for the loss, or damage to, candidate property or for personal injury however caused.

    If you are suspended from football (by any County FA) then you are suspended from all football activity, including courses.

    Should you miss any session(s) of any course you sign up to the Nottinghamshire FA reserve the right to remove you from the course, and no refund will be given. However in exceptional circumstances candidates may be offered the opportunity to attend missed session(s) on other courses should availability allow, and the Nottinghamshire FA will charge you extra accordingly.

    You will respect the course tutor, course venue and the other candidates and their points of view and you will understand that if your behaviour, language or conduct is deemed 'unacceptable', 'offensive' or 'harmful' for any reason, the Nottinghamshire FA and the venues reserves the right to exclude you from continuing on your chosen course and if necessary, future courses.

    Nottinghamshire FA Cancellation Policy

    Should you cancel your registration at any time you will receive a refund minus the following administration fee:

    For courses up to 3 hours                  -               Paid Fee minus £5.00

    For courses between 6 to 32 hours      -               Paid Fee minus £20.00

    For courses over 32 hours                  -               Paid Fee minus £30.00

    No return if less than 5 working days notice given prior to course start date.  The Nottinghamshire FA reserves the right at its discretion to issue a full refund if suitable evidence is provided.

    Nottinghamshire FA Transfer Policy

    Should you wish your application to be transferred from one course to another (of the same type and value) then an additional £10.00 administration fee will be charged for courses (6 hours or more), and £5.00 administration fee for workshops (up to 3 hours).

    Nottinghamshire FA Refund Policy

    Should a course that you have registered on be cancelled or postponed by the Nottinghamshire FA then a full refund will be issued.

    Should you cancel your registration and request a refund the Nottinghamshire FA reserves the right with regard to the method of payment by bank transfer or cheque.
