SSE Wildcats Differentiation - MANAGING PLAYER DIFFERENCES
1. Compare and analyse the abilities of children attending SSE Wildcats Sessions.
2. Explain how to manage these differences within a practical setting.
3. Consider the learning and recommendations shared from other centres to support the long term retention of your own SSE Wildcats Centre.
SSE Wildcats is a first introduction to football for the novice girl. Naturally girls will
transition through the pathway into competitive teams, however it is important that a
centre remains as a permanent opportunity for girls to try football for the first time
There has never been a more exciting time for girls in the game, and who knows
where the participants in this year’s SSE wildcats centres will end up. From here, they will
go into teams and maybe even one day become Lionesses
Lots of different types of player attending SSE wildcats. Differentiation in
sessions is key. Now that centres have been delivering sessions for a number of weeks
coaches are recognising that although we have already discussed the two ‘extremes’ there is a
whole range of players who fit somewhere between novice and highly engaged and
this should have an impact on our delivery. As coaches we need to have an
understanding of the reasons why the players are attending our sessions as well as
a brief background as this can help us plan appropriately to ensure all sessions are
safe, fun and challenging for all players.
