The FA Level 1 Introduction to First Aid in Football (previously known as the FA Emergency First Aid course) provides you with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to attend a conscious or unconscious player, ensuring that appropriate care is given until the emergency medical services arrive and takeover, or until an alternative healthcare professional(s) assumes responsibility. It is a practical guide to dealing with the essential components of saving a life, both in training and matches.
This course goes beyond generic first aid and includes elements specific to football.
Content
The role of the first aider
The jaw thrust as an airway opening technique
The A-E approach of the injured footballer (inclusive of the unconscious footballer)
Emergency action planning for football
Preparation for action for sudden cardiac arrest in the young
Recognition, BLS with AED
Breathing for every player during BLS, compression only CPR is not recommended for those first aiders with a duty of care to respond to players during matches and training (this is different context to the lay person attendance in a different environment)
The FA concussion guidelines
Dispelling the myths of first aid in football
The football specific first aid kit and record keeping
Duration -Three hours
Pre-requisites - Be at least 16 years of age
Who is it for?
This short course is applicable to coaches, team managers, parents, teachers, volunteers and carers who have the responsibility for the provision of basic life support and who may be the only persons present until the ambulance arrives.
It is highly recommended that you undertake The FA Level 2 Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF) course to complement the skills you acquire during this course.
Currency of qualification
Due to the nature and responsibility associated with first aid provision, and in line with current UK guidelines, the currency of this certificate for use as a first aid qualification will be limited to three years.
