Course Information:

  • Minimum Age: 16
  • Course Duration: 75 hours
  • Course Prerequisites: FA Safeguarding Children, Emergency First Aid, FA Online Laws of the Game. (Please note, this learning may be included in your Level 2 course program, please contact your County FA for more details).
  • Course aims and objectives: This nationally recognised qualification will provide candidates who have an ongoing involvement in football, with the opportunity to gain knowledge of how to effectively plan, deliver and evaluate coaching sessions.

Theory: The course will introduce a number of key aspects related to the role of a football coach in working with youth players. These are delivered via home based study tasks and Tutor delivered workshops.

  • The roles, skills and qualities of a football coach
  • Developing session plans and associated information for planning
  • Awareness of safe and organised activities
  • Preparation for potential accidents, illnesses and emergencies
  • A consideration of coaching styles
  • Coaching session evaluation and self-reflection
  • Nutritional needs of football players
  • Fitness components related to football
  • The planning of progressive coaching sessions.

Practical: The practical elements of the course will provide the following:

  • The principles of attacking to include creating and exploiting space
  • Passing
  • Support Play
  • Ball Control
  • Dribbling
  • Running with the ball
  • Turning
  • Goalkeeping
  • Finishing
  • Heading
  • The principles of defending to include denying and restricting space
  • Defensive play when organised and outnumbered

In addition candidates will have the opportunity to undertake two observed practical coaching sessions with their Tutor and receive feedback based on selected criteria. This will form the basis of an opportunity to deliver 12 hours of coaching in the candidate's work place to apply the experience gained from the course of training.

Practical Involvement: Candidates will be encouraged to participate practically to maximise their opportunities for learning (This however will not prevent successful completion of the award).

Assessment: Assessment is via successful completion of:

1. All pre-requisites (First Aid/Safeguarding Children/FAL Laws of the Game Online module)
2. All candidate portfolio tasks
3. Practical delivery of a 35 minute practical coaching activity that will be progressed on a specific theme relating to the course syllabus

Re-assessment: Candidates can be reassessed within a 24 month period from registration

Refresher: Every 3 years as specified in The FAL Level 2 CPD and Refresher Policy

1)     Do you have a FAN?

  • No: Please use the ‘Don’t have a FAN number?’ function below to create a FAN. Once you have submitted your details in the pop-up box, you will receive a confirmation email which will include your newly created FAN. You will need to create a FAN before you book onto any of our courses online or via phone or email with Manchester FA,
  • Yes: Please log in and make payment online to enrol
  • Please Note: If you have been involved in grassroots football, it is likely you already have a FAN. Please check whether you have a FAN. If you have FORGOTTEN YOUR FAN DO NOT CREATE A NEW ONE. Your qualifications will be split across different profiles and it may harm your ability to enrol on courses in future.


Manchester County FA – Coach Education Candidate Terms & Conditions

Please ensure that prior to booking on any course with Manchester County FA that you read and understand the information below:

 
1)    Non Attendance:

  • Candidates are required to attend all course dates.
  • Candidates who fail to attend all course dates will lose the full course payment.
    • Candidates who fail to attend all course dates will not be permitted to transfer to a future course and will be required to pay the full amount again to re-enrol.
    • Candidates who miss all or part of the course due to sickness or injury must provide a Doctor’s note. Upon receipt of a Doctor’s note, Manchester County FA will advise Candidates if they are eligible for a transfer or part or full refund.

2)    Cancellation/Transfer Policy:

  • Manchester County FA will enforce the following cancellation terms on all bookings:

Booking cancelled within 30 days of the course commencing – no refund.

Booking cancelled within 45 days of the course commencing – 50% refund.

Booking cancelled within 60 days of the course commencing – 75% refund.

Booking cancelled beyond 60 days of the course commencing – 100% refund.

         
Manchester County FA reserves the right to request a Doctor’s note when a Candidate cancels due to sickness or injury.

  • Candidates may only transfer course(s) on one occasion. If you wish to transfer to another course you must write to Manchester County FA (courses@manchesterfa.com) and provide at least 10 days’ notice of the course commencement date. Manchester County FA reserve the right to refuse any transfer and will provide written reasons for any refusal.
  • Candidates who transfer course(s) must re-enrol within 6 months of the original course commencement date. Manchester County FA reserves the right to extend this period subject to a lack of course availability.
  • Candidates who fail to transfer course(s) within the specified 6 month period will forfeit their course fee.
  • Candidates who wish to transfer course(s) are required to pay a £10 administration fee to Manchester County FA immediately upon confirmation of your transfer. Manchester County FA reserves the right to waiver this fee.
