Developing Decision Makers


One of the things that distinguishes the better players from the good players is around how they can make effective decisions within the game. However, how often as coaches do we actually provide players with the opportunity to 'practice' their ability to make decisions within the context of the game.

This workshop will provide you with an understanding of the importance of developing decision making within young players and how to shape your sessions to enable this valuable skill to be developed.

1. Are we creating decision makers or are we creating robots? if we only ever tell the players what to do, will they ever become competent in being able to make decisions for themselves when playing the game. The session will highlight some key points around how players 'learn' to be effective decision makers

2. How to design 'Decision making' practices - the skills coaches will demonstrate key examples of how to include as many opportunities for players to make decisions within the game.

3. The Development of decision making is a long term process - as coaches we need to be aware that giving players freedom to make decisions for themselves may often lead to mistakes being made. The Skills coaches will offer key tips on how to feel comfortable knowing that the players will not necessarily get success straight away, but over time they will reap the benefits of this freedom we have given them.
