Overview
The FA EFAiF Course is a sports first aid course aimed at ‘lay first aiders’, specifically coaches, teachers, parents and volunteers, who are responsible for the provision of emergency first aid when supporting football activities.
Description
Aims:
- To provide the learner with an understanding of the general duties, responsibilities and treatment principles of first aid within the football environment
- To provide learners with the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to recognise and manage life and limb threatening injuries and the ability to offer basic first aid.
Objectives:
On completion of the course, the learner should be able to:
- Describe the duties, responsibilities, general treatment principles and priorities of emergency care provision in the football setting
- Describe the elements of pre-event preparation (EAP) in relation to emergency care provision in football
- Carry out the emergency procedures taught on the course that would deal with a life or limb threatening injury presented to them in football inclusive of sudden cardiac arrest, catastrophic bleeding and other medical emergencies
- Have knowledge and management of airway and cervical spine issues that may arise in football
- Have knowledge and understanding of The FA concussion guidelines and have completed the on-line course prior to attending the EFAiF course
Limits of Responsibility:
The course aims and objectives focus on the need to provide the learner with sufficient knowledge and skills to identify life and limb threatening injury in football. The aims and objectives are also directed towards a learner identifying the need for an injured or ill player to be referred to a hospital, for medical management by an appropriate healthcare professional.
Content
The course is ideally one-day inclusive but can be subdivided into three distinct modules if required. Please note all modules must be completed within one month (ideal 3 weeks) and there is no APL to The FA IFAiF course.
Module 1 –
- The Emergency Action Plan / Roles and responsibilities of the first aider in football / dispelling the myths of first aid / First aid equipment for football
- A-E approach cardiac - CPR/ AED and management of sudden cardiac arrest in both adult and paediatric players includes theory and practice
- Acute Medical emergencies in football (Asthma, anaphylaxis
Module 2 –
- A-E approach of the injured footballer includes airway management and practice
- Management of the unresponsive player includes c-spine awareness and assisting the ambulance crew theory and practice
- Head Injury and Concussion Management in Football theory and practical application
Module 3 –
- Medical emergencies in football includes anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, hypoglycaemia, epilepsy, heat stroke
- Limb threatening injuries in football and their first aid management, includes fracture/dislocations, catastrophic bleeding, shock management theory and practical application
- Consolidation of all of the above modules 1-3 in summary

Learners must be at least 16 years of age
Have knowledge and understanding of The FA concussion guidelines (e-learning module completion)
Have knowledge, understanding and have completed The FA Sudden Cardiac Arrest (e-learning module completion)

How to Apply
1) Do you have a FAN?
- No: Please use the ‘Don’t have a FAN number?’ function below to create a FAN. Once you have submitted your details in the pop-up box, you will receive a confirmation email which will include your newly created FAN. You will need to create a FAN before you book onto any of our courses online or via phone or email with Manchester FA,
- Yes: Please log in and make payment online to enrol
- Please Note: If you have been involved in grassroots football, it is likely you already have a FAN. Please check whether you have a FAN. If you have FORGOTTEN YOUR FAN DO NOT CREATE A NEW ONE. Your qualifications will be split across different profiles and it may harm your ability to enrol on courses in future.
2) Enrolment/Payment:
- Online (Highly Recommended): Please log in online using your FAN and password. You can enrol and make your payment online. This is the easiest and most convenient way for candidates to register on all courses. It is important that your FAN and password are correct as you need to complete online modules as part of some of your courses.
- Credit Card: Please ring the Manchester County FA on 0161 203 2990 (option 2) and ask for Daniel Pilling. You will need to quote your FAN, and make payment with a credit card over the phone. Please note that this method is not advised as it is much more time consuming for both Manchester FA and the candidate.
- Invoice: Please ring the Manchester County FA on 0161 203 2990 (option 2) and ask for Daniel Pilling. You will need to quote your FAN, and have the correct invoice details ready(Name, Business, Address, Email Address). Please note that invoices cannot be sent to individuals, and will only be sent direct to clubs or businesses. Payment via invoice must be in excess of £150 – invoices below this amount are not available.
- Please Note: Payment MUST be taken before candidates can be registered onto courses. Once payment has been confirmed, your place will be secured. If your club has been invoiced, please ensure this payment is paid 7 DAYS prior to the start date, otherwise your place will NOT be confirmed and your place may be surrendered.
Terms & Conditions
Please ensure that prior to booking on any course with Manchester F.A that you read and understand the information below:
1) None Attendance:
- You are required to ATTEND ALL COURSE DATES.
- If you do not attend all course dates, you will LOSE YOUR PAYMENT.
- You will not be permitted to TRANSFER to a future course.
- You will be REQUIRED TO PAY THE FULL AMOUNT AGAIN TO RE-ENROL.
- If you miss part of the course due to ILLNESS, a DOCTOR’S NOTE will be required as evidence for us to consider a transfer.
2) Cancellation/Transfer Policy:
- A refund is not available when cancelling a booked course WITHIN 28 DAYS of its commencement. No circumstances considered.
- You may only transfer courses ONCE.
- If you wish to transfer to another course 7 DAYS notice of the course commencement date must be given for our consideration.
- We can however offer a credit note, which is valid for 12 months ONLY.
- If you wish to transfer WITHIN 7 DAYS of the course commencement, a transfer will not be processed until you are replaced on the course by another person.
- Please ensure you are available for the as you MAY LOSE YOUR PAYMENT in this circumstance.
- A £20 ADMIN FEE will be required if your transfer is processed. (*Extreme circumstances considered*)
