FA Emergency First Aid

 

Overview

This is a three hour workshop for the pitch side first aider, which aims to provide the participant with:

  • Knowledge and practical skills to be able to attend an unconscious player
  • Knowledge and practical skills to be able to recognise and manage a player who is not breathing, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation
  • Knowledge of sudden cardiac arrest in football
  • Knowledge and practical skills to recognise and apply immediate first aid to a number of medical conditions that pose a threat to life
  • Knowledge of the requirements of emergency action planning for football
  • Knowledge of the FA concussion guidelines and appropriate immediate management of the concussed player

The course is open to all with an interest in improving their emergency aid skills. The qualification is valid for a period of three years.

 

Description

The course will provide the learner with the knowledge and practical skills and an introduction to first aid that will enable them to attend a conscious or unconscious player, ensuring that appropriate care is given until the emergency medical services arrive and takeover, or until an alternative healthcare professional(s) assumes responsibility for the player.

On completion of the workshop, the learner will be able to:

  • Recognise their role and responsibility as a nominated First Aider
  • Identify the key components of an Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
  • Identify best practice when summoning medical assistance, in terms of when, how and knowing what information is required
  • Determine whether a player is conscious or unconscious and perform the correct procedure to open the airway
  • Apply the correct techniques whilst performing chest compressions, rescue breathing and automated external defibrillation to a player suffering from a sudden cardiac arrest
  • Discuss appropriate actions following an incident
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms, and administer appropriate immediate first aid when dealing with a range of life threatening conditions that may present in football

Pre-requisites

Learners must be at least 16 years of age

Have knowledge and understanding of The FA concussion guidelines (e-learning module completion)

Have knowledge, understanding and have completed The FA Sudden Cardiac Arrest (e-learning module completion)

Introduction to First Aid in Football Course (IFAiF) 

This course has replaced the Emergency Aid course from 1st August 2017


Course Information:

  • Minimum Age: 16
  • Course Duration: 3 hours 
  • Course Prerequisites: None
  • Who is it for: A short course over 3 hours to train club representatives in resuscitation and life-saving skills.
  • Course aims and objectives:
    • 1. To preserve life
    • 2. Limit the effect of injury
    • 3. Promote recovery

Course Content: This course will cover the following subjects:

  • Incident Management
  • Assessing the casualty
  • Recovery position
  • CPR
  • Heart attacks
  • Choking
  • Asthma
  • Head injuries

Practical Involvement: The course contains content of a practical and functional nature, given this participants should be in good general health. Students should appreciate that the course contains practical components where they will work with other course members.

Assessment:
        1. Attendance on the course
        2. Practical participation/demonstration of various components of the course content.

Re-assessment: N/A

Refresher: First Aid qualifications have a 3 year validity, this qualification must be renewed every 3 years.

Please be advised all of our courses are delivered using the English language.  To complete the course learners will be required to have a sound understanding of English; both oral and written.

If you are unable to understand or speak the English language you will be required to provide a translator for the duration of the course.  If you are bringing a translator you will be required to let Hertfordshire FA know in advance of the course start date.


FA Safeguarding Children & Emergency Aid certificates

Certificates of attendance for both the FA Safeguarding Children and Emergency Aid workshops are now no longer issued by FA Education.  Learners can download and print their certificate via the FA Learning website Learning.TheFA.com


Please note the cost of The FA Emergency Aid course has slightly increased.  This is to ensure a high level of maintenance on the Resuscitation Annies is continued and that all learners are subjected to  an extremely high level of Health & Safety measures when attending this course.
