Course Information:
- Minimum Age: 14 Years of Age
- Course Duration: Minimum 14 hours plus 6 games
- Course Prerequisites: None
- Who is it for: The course is aimed at those individuals who wish to become an active referee involved in the 11 a side game both in Youth and Adult football.
- Course aims and objectives: This course will provide an introduction to the laws of the game as well as developing the practical skills required to be a football referee.
- FA Safeguarding Children: Those under the age of 18 years of age you will be sent a FA Safeguarding Children DVD and paperwork to complete. For those aged 18 years of age you will have to attend a Safeguarding Children Workshop, (this will be arranged for you and you will be notified of the dates by the County FA). You will not be permitted to register as a Referee until this process has been completed, even if you are successful in passing the examination on the Laws of the Game.
- Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Check: All candidates over the age of 18 must hold a CRB which must have been issued by the FA CRB Unit. Information on the process to obtain your CRB will be sent to you prior to the start of the course. You will not be permitted to register as a Referee until this process has been completed, even if you are successful in passing the examination on the Laws of the Game.
Course Content:
The course is run over 5 modules including the completion of 6 matches as a trainee referee, two of which should be observed by a referee coach.
The course can either be predominantly theory or practically based dependant on venue and can be run over a weekend or several sessions again depending on resources.
Module 1- Introduction
This module will introduce some key aspects in the following:
- Laws of the Game
- The role of the Referee
- Consider the skills require to control a game of football.
Module 2- Practical Element
Practical elements of the course will provide an introduction to:
- Positioning & movement at both set pieces & in open play
- Managing game situations
- Signals & communication techniques
Module 3 - Examination
You will be examined on your knowledge of the Laws of the Game with both a multiple choice examination paper and a DVD to establish theory & practical knowledge.

Module 4 - Refereeing
- 6 games are used to establish both the knowledge as well as the practicalities of refereeing.
- 2 of the games are observed by a referee coach who offers immediate feedback and development points.
Module 5 - The next Steps
A 2 hour workshop designed to reflect on a trainee referees first experiences of refereeing and to offer development on the way forward. On completion Module 5 you will then be promoted to:
Level 7 Referee – Junior County Referee (16 years of age or over)
Level 8 Referee – Youth Referee (14 or 15 years of age)

LEARNING AGREEMENT

Hampshire FA reserves the right to increase or decrease the course fee at its discretion.
I am fully aware that my chosen course may be one which includes the FA Child Protection three hour Workshop, which discusses some sensitive hypothetical issues and some real issues regarding child abuse in its various forms. If I am under the age of 18 I will not attend the FA Child Protection workshop but instead will receive the Child Protection Distance Learning guide.
I am fully aware I am the only participant who can attend the FA Safeguarding Children Workshop, I understand that no other person may attend in my place should I be unable to attend.
I understand that payment for the course can only be made via cheque or credit card payment and that we (The County FA) will not accept any request which is made for invoicing for a course place by an individual or third party.
All Course fees must be paid prior to the start of the course. If I do not deliver payment for my course fee before the commencement of the course, my certificate will be withheld until payment is settled.
Cancellation of the course,
The following cancellation fees will be what the candidate will receive in a credit note to use for Hampshire FA courses only:
75% return if 2 months notice given
50% return if 1 month notice given
25% return if less than one month given
No return if less than 7 days given
I understand that I must attend ALL the scheduled course dates as outlined above.
I will respect the course tutor, course venue and the other candidates and their points of view and I understand that if my behaviour, language or conduct is deemed unacceptable, offensive or harmful for any reason, the Hampshire FA and the venues reserves the right to exclude me for continuing on my chosen course and if necessary, future courses.
The Hampshire FA does not accept responsibility for the loss, or damage to, candidate property or for personal injury however caused and that I will ensure that I am protected with my own personal insurance cover.
I understand that I am responsible for providing my own Refreshments during the course scheduled dates.
I confirm that I understand the above statements and their implications and that the information I have provided on this form is correct to the very best of my knowledge.
If you have any Criminal Convictions then can you please put details on a separate piece of paper.
If you are on General Suspension you cannot attend the course until you have been cleared.
