The course consists of five modules and all five modules must be completed before official conversion as a newly qualified referee:
Module 1 – Online Learning (online FA Guide to the Laws of the Game and online FA Safeguarding education)
Module 2 – Session 1: Creating Chemistry (1 evening session)
Module 3 – Session 2: Building the Foundation (1 day weekend session)
Module 4 – Practical Games (attend an all-day mini-soccer festival)
Module 5 – Re-connection (In-Person ‘celebration evening’)
Prior to attending the course, all candidates must have evidence on their FAN account that the online learning (Module 1) has been completed.
Learners must be 14 or over on the course start date.

Participants undertaking this course will be supported through the various ages and stages of local football. Guidance will be provided to help identify the most appropriate levels, formats, and leagues based on each individual's age and experience.
Initially, participants will begin by working with younger age groups, supporting indoor football during the winter months. As they progress, they will transition to supporting older age groups and engaging with a broader range of leagues (if appropriate/applicable).
Learners must have completed The FA’s Guide to the Laws of the Game and the appropriate FA Safeguarding Course prior to attending the face-to-face sessions.

- Learners age 14 & 15 should complete the free ‘Safeguarding for All’ course via this link
- Learners age 16 and over should complete the ‘Safeguarding Children Course’ via this link, the fee is £30 and must be paid directly to The FA, it is not part of the Referee Course fee.

- FA DBS Check – Learners aged 16 and over will also require an FA DBS check completed prior to refereeing in any game.
