Brief outline of course

This workshop will focus on hydrotherapy and recovery.

As the physical demands of professional football are ever increasing due to the increases in speed and intensity of play, the ability to ensure a player can stay in optimum physical condition for the duration of a season has become a crucial component of effective player management. The Perform at St. George’s Park team will explain the various physiological measures of fatigue (such as heart rate variability, psychophysiological scores, hormonal imbalances and neuro-muscular function) and demonstrate how they can be applied in a practical setting (Case Study Presentation by Steve Kemp detecting the onset of fatigue with the EnglandU20  World Cup Squad). In addition, methods to enhance recovery and reduce the impact of fatigue on subsequent performance will be demonstrated in a practical setting and will include hydro-therapy (contrast water therapy, cold water immersion, deep water running), forms of massage, aerobic exercise and nutritional / hydration strategies. It is intended that the module be interactive with the opportunity for delegate participation.
