Who is it for?

To gain a place on the UEFA Pro-Licence, applicants must meet the stated criteria detailed below:

  • Applicants must hold a current FA Advanced Coaching Licence / UEFA ‘A’ Award, or equivalent, with priority given to applicants holding the English FA Award.
  • Applicants from outside the UK must hold the current A Licence equivalent award of that country with priority given to holders of The FA Advanced Coaching Licence / UEFA ‘A’ Coaching Award.
  • All applicants must have experience in the professional game (or women’s equivalent) at senior level as a player coach, coach, assistant manager or manager.
  • Priority will be given to applicants who have significant coaching experience with senior players.

The course has an annual optimum intake of 18 and applicants therefore are required to submit their CV, with a covering letter, to FA Learning by the 21st January 2011.

The applications are then considered by the UEFA Pro-Licence Admissions Committee, which is made up of a representative from The FA, The LMA, The PFA, The Premier League and The Football League, and the intake is agreed to commence the course in June.

Course Description

The UEFA Pro Licence is the mandatory qualification for first team managers to work in the Premier League, therefore, the course is designed to prepare managers/coaches to work in elite level football (International, Premier League, Football League, and the upcoming FA Women’s Super League levels).

The residential elements of the course will involve interactive workshops/lectures with a variety of speakers from football, other sports, education and other industries. Conference Calls will provide candidates with experiential learning opportunities throughout the course, and candidates will be expected to lead two of these calls. There are a number of theory modules that candidates must complete in order to complete the course (detailed in the ‘Course Content’ section).

Candidates must also complete a Study Visit Report, which they will present back to the group during Graduation.

Pre-course task

Candidates are required to complete a pre-course interview and self-reflection task. This will be assigned to all successful applicants around one month prior to the course.

Post-course task

Candidates will be given a self-test exercise on Coaching Pedagogy, to be completed within one month of the course.

Course Assessment

In order to complete the course, candidates must complete all of the coursework, conference calls, study visits and presentations.

Re-assessment

Candidates who do not complete all of the above tasks may be able to complete them with the 2012-13 UEFA Pro Licence group.

Dress code

Standard dress code on the course is casual. For practically based courses, please bring sufficient outdoor kit/clothing for the duration of the course. The venue ask that candidates refrain from wearing muddy footwear inside the building.

Should the course require any alternative dress, this will be detailed in the course joining instructions.

Medical Information / Physical Requirements

If you have any medical conditions which limit/hinder your involvement or participation in coaching activities, you are obliged to declare any relevant, current or previous injuries/illnesses. If you are diagnosed as an asthmatic, diabetic or epileptic, or have any allergies that the course staff needs to be aware of, you must advise us accordingly. Please note, a declaration of injury or illness does not automatically preclude you from any course.

You should further be aware that if you are on a regular course of medication for any condition, you must have sufficient medication to cover you throughout the course. Although first aid cover is provided (where applicable) during courses, no doctor is available to replenish regular medication, nor is there any facility to deliver medical treatment for chronic (longstanding) medical conditions.

Please provide any relevant information regarding the above Medical Information during the application process.

If your application to enrol is successful candidates will be required to complete a Medical Form prior to commencing the course.

Practical Information

Please note that if a student has a disability that may prevent them participating actively in the practical sessions, then this should be made known to the course organiser at the point of registration. The course organiser will then take any necessary steps to cater for the students requirements which may include bringing in footballers to ensure there are sufficient numbers of players.

Coaches working exclusively in Academies/Centres of Excellence at Football League clubs may be able to access funding through their club. If your club is providing this funding, please email FALearningSupport@TheFA.com with the following details:

UEFA Education Transfers

Under UEFA guidelines, all applicants originating from other National Associations than the FA must complete a UEFA Cross Border form (annex 10) before being approved on a FA Learning course. Exceptions are made for candidates who live, work or were born in England.
